SomnoGuard^® - the device...
SomnoGuard^® is a device made from copolymeric thermoplastic material developed in order to shift the lower jaw forward during sleep. This allows the respiratory tract to open further than when the tongue and soft tissue relaxes with the jaw back. Use of the SomnoGuard^® requires proper nasal respiration as well as a complete dental status. The device does also has a hole in the front for 'emergency' breathing, should the nose become blocked.

Fitting SomnoGuard^®
Fitting is quite easy, does not require any special equipment and can be accomplished in a couple of minutes. The plastic device is imersed for a few moments in hot water to make it maleable and then mould to the exact shape of your teeth. A deep jaw impression (see photos) is essential for proper jaw advancement. Who can be helped by SomnoGuard^®?
Clincial tests have shown that SomnoGuard^® effectively stops snoring for many patients and significantly reduces respiratory arrests in patients suffering from sleep apnoea. In the case of sleep apnoea patients there are requirements about the available jaw extension and SomnoGuard^® should only be considered following medical consultation.

Most users find that it takes just a few nights use to adjust to using a mandibular advancement device but it can take as long as thirty days, so do, please, persevere if you find it strange at first. For the first few nights the mouth may produce more saliva.
